This page explains the information Yooper.Outdoors uses to run the site and its community features.

Information you provide

When you register, we collect a username, display name, email address, and password. We store a password hash, not a readable copy of your password. You may also provide profile details and a profile photo.

Depending on what you use, we store community posts and photos, comments, private messages, place suggestions and photos, reports, and other content you submit.

Information created when you use the site

We record relevant times, such as when accounts, posts, messages, and interactions are created. Community features record follows, blocks, Yoops, article reactions such as Been Here and Want to Go, Saved Adventures, and notifications.

The site uses a session cookie to keep you signed in and support form security. We use IP addresses for security controls such as rate limiting. Local-business promotions and advertisements use aggregate impression and click counters; those counters do not identify individual visitors.

How information is used and shown

We use this information to operate accounts and community features, show your public profile and content where appropriate, moderate reports, prevent abuse, maintain site functionality, and send account-related messages such as password resets.

Private messages are shown to the participants, not posted publicly. They are stored by the site; do not treat them as end-to-end encrypted or use them to send highly sensitive information. Place suggestions are submitted for review rather than published automatically.
