Upper Tahquamenon Falls Might Be the Most Impressive Waterfall in Michigan

When you pull in, you can tell right away this isn’t just a quick roadside stop.
There’s a big parking area, a visitor center, and even a brewery and restaurant right there.
It’s more of a full destination than just a place you swing by for a couple minutes.
And yeah… having a brewery right there doesn’t hurt either.

From there, you’ll hit a few different lookout spots.
You get some really good views of the falls, and you can tell it’s big… but you’re still seeing it from a distance.
It looks cool, but it hasn’t really hit yet.

The real spot is the stairs on the right side.
Once you get down there, that’s when it actually hits.
You’re right up on it, it’s loud, and it feels way bigger and heavier than it did from above.

One of the first things you’ll notice is the color of the water.
It’s that dark brown, almost root beer look from the tannins in the river.
It’s not like most waterfalls, and it gives the whole place a different feel.

It can get pretty busy, especially in the summer, and it’s definitely one of the more developed spots in the U.P.
But that also makes it really easy to get to, and you don’t have to hike far to see something impressive.
Even with people around, it’s still 100% worth it.

There’s also a brewery and restaurant right near the falls, so you can grab food or a drink without going anywhere.
It’s a nice way to slow things down after walking around for a while.

If you’re anywhere near Paradise, this is one stop you don’t skip.
It’s easy to get to, it’s different from most waterfalls, and it’s way better in person than it looks on camera.
