Roadside Stops Benny the Beard Fisher

đŸȘ” A Hidden Troll in the UP Built by a World-Renowned Artist

We were on our way to Munising for a weekend of waterfalls and decided to swing through Germfask for a quick stop. Had to go see Benny again. This wasn’t our first time here. We’ve stopped to see Benny the Beard Fisher before, but it’s one of those spots you don’t mind stopping at again. And honestly, it still kind of catches you off guard every time.

Not Just a Roadside Stop

Benny might look like a fun roadside attraction, but he’s actually part of something much bigger.

He was created by Thomas Dambo, a world-renowned artist known for building giant trolls out of recycled materials all over the world.

So having one tucked away here in the Upper Peninsula is pretty wild.

Still Hits Every Time

Even knowing exactly where he is, walking up to Benny still feels a little unexpected.

The size of him, the detail in the wood, the way he blends right into the trees, it doesn’t feel out of place at all.

If anything, it feels like he belongs there.

That’s what makes it cool.

It’s not flashy or overdone. Just quietly sitting in the woods like he’s always been there.

An Easy, Worthwhile Stop
This is one of those perfect UP stops.

You’re not hiking miles or planning your whole day around it. You just pull off, walk over, check it out, and you’re back on the road.

That’s exactly what we did.

Quick Stop, Then Back at It

After seeing Benny again, we kept rolling and grabbed lunch up the road before heading toward Munising.

Simple stop, but one we’ll probably keep making anytime we pass through.

Find It Yourself

We dropped a pin for Benny on the map so you can check him out next time you’re in the area.

If you’re already heading west for waterfalls or just cruising through Germfask, it’s an easy add and definitely worth it.

Final Thought

Some places don’t need to be new to be good.

Benny’s one of those.
